What to expect during an appointment?
While your appointment takes place in a familiar environment, I will maintain the same level of professionalism, respect, and confidentiality you would expect from a traditional clinic. Because I provide treatment directly in your home, there are a few things you can do to help make your appointment as comfortable and effective as possible
Before Your Appointment
Please prepare your space. I ask that you provide a suitable space for your assessment and treatment. Ideally, an open area of approximately 80–90 square feet (7.5–8.5 square metres) is recommended. This gives me enough room to setup a portable therapy table, properly assess your movement, perform hands-on treatment, demostrate exercises, and safely position both of us throughout the appointment.
I understand that every home is different, and I will work with the space available whenever possible. If you are unsure whether you have an appropriate space, please contact me before your appointment..
What to Wear
For your initial physical assessment, I recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing such as shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. This allows me to better observe your movement and assess different areas of your body while keeping you as comfortable as possible.
During Your Appointment
I will begin by performing a movement and musculoskeletal assessment to better understand how you move, what may be contributing to your concerns, and what treatment approaches may be appropriate.
Depending on your assessment, goals, and individual presentation, I may use a variety of manual osteopathic techniques and modalities, including:
- Soft tissue and myofascial techniques
- Joint mobilization
- Muscle energy techniques
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- Movement and exercise recommendations
- Cupping and IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage)
- Other hands-on approaches appropriate to your individual presentation
I will explain what I am doing throughout your appointment and make adjustments based on how you respond to treatment. Not every technique is appropriate for every person, so my approach will be individualized to you.
Professionalism in Your Home
Although I provide treatment in the comfort and privacy of your home, I maintain the same professional standards that you would expect in a clinical setting.
I ask that you provide a safe and appropriate environment for treatment. I will always communicate respectfully, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and conduct myself in a manner consistent with the standards of my profession.
At the same time, I recognize that your home is your personal space. I will treat your home, belongings, and privacy with respect. I am also happy to follow reasonable household preferences that you communicate to me, including where you would like treatment to take place, footwear preferences, pets, and other considerations that may affect your comfort.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Your privacy is important to me. Any information discussed, collected, or documented during your appointment is treated as confidential and handled professionally.
I understand that receiving treatment in your home requires a certain level of trust. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns and confident that your personal information and treatment experience will be respected
Cancellation Policy
I understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I require at least 24 hours’ notice.
Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to a $20 cancellation fee, which will be charged to the credit card on file.
Providing adequate notice is important because each appointment time is reserved specifically for you. As a mobile practitioner, I also plan my schedule and travel around each appointment. When an appointment is cancelled at the last minute or missed, I may no longer have enough time to offer that appointment to another client who could have used the time.
I appreciate your consideration and ask that you communicate with me as soon as possible if you need to make a change to your appointment.
Travel Fees
I am located in the town of Wolfville, and because I operate a mobile practice, a travel fee applies to most appointments. The fee helps account for the time and operating costs associated with travelling to and from your home. Travel distance is calculated based on the round-trip distance between my location and the appointment address. To inquire about whether or not you fit into the travel radius of 25km, please email david@compassosteopathy.ca with your street address.
Less than 5km = $5.10
5km-10km = $10.20
10km-15km = $15.30
15km-20km = $20.40
20km-25km = $25.50
